The museum and its collection
This atypical museum is both a society museum and a fashion museum open to the contemporary creation. It introduces you to the lace production and the textile art of the region.
A fully-working lace workshop has been reproduced to enable you to see and understand the mysterious alchemy between know-how and technique (weaving loom, Leavers loom,..). Our lacemaker in charge of the fabrication on the Leavers Loom, explains in details the different steps of fabrication.
Moreover, the museum presents temporary exhibitions looking in detail at a theme linking fashion and lace.
The building
Set at the heart of the town in the former Carpentier lace factory, which goes back to 1898, the museum manages to preserve the true atmosphere of a 19th workshop in operation. This building is typical of the industrial architecture in the late 19th century : the bricks, a cheap construction materials, were made on the spot. The steel structure is still visible on the ceiling vaults. The big metal windows lets in natural light.
